Gradually understanding sustainable living

About This Site

Nicholas Smith

The word “sustainable” is thrown about quite loosely these days. Marketers use the word to add an air of environmental cachet to their products. The news media blends it in to environmental stories, rarely bothering to understand the deeper meaning behind the word.

Moving Like Water was created as a way to learn about sustainable living. Truly sustainable living.

The site was founded by Nicholas Smith, a Seattle resident, marketing professional and former journalist. Smith’s desire to live free from the entrapments of a 21st century lifestyle helped him develop the philosophy of Moving Like Water, a philosophy that seeks to balance the needs and desires of modern living with our fundamental need to survive.

Moving Like Water means developing a closer connection with nature and using nature to our advantage. This includes human nature. Driving an entire society toward sustainable living means putting economic and governmental mechanisms in place. We will challenge conventional wisdom and investigate new developments and companies. We’ll experiment with our own lives and learn from others who are doing the same.

And as we try to work more closely with nature instead of against it, we will find our way becomes easier. Our dreams will be closer and our freedom greater. If we’re successful, we will all be Moving Like Water.
